1bench2.jpg (138581 bytes)
A few pictures of a Neanderthal bench.
I made 2 so far.
They are very nice when located in a rustic setting.
Made from 3" thick Red Oak.

Some "Keep It Simple Stupid" Sawhorses

sh4.JPG (31313 bytes)
While I was making a few things around the shop, I had the need of a couple of good saw-horses. I have a couple of workmate clones, but they are heavy and take up a lot of space, I do use them, but I have found that for the occasional use, they are over kill. I made some K.I.S.S. saw-horses from an ideal I got from "The Workshop", Book, by Scott Landis.
A guy named "Martin Bernstein" who is a carpenter on movies etc. came up with the design. They provide good solid support, but are small light-weight and easy to make.
sh3.JPG (34419 bytes)

Here is one of them in use. There are two hinges at the top, and 3 at the bottom.

sh2.JPG (33940 bytes)
The secret is the locking action of the bottom piece of wood, now the horse is unlocked ready to be folded up.
sh1.JPG (36065 bytes)
Here it is folded up ready to go. They are made of some 1x3 and some
1/2" plywood gussets on the corners. Easy to make, use, transport, and store.
These photos were sent to me by Mike McTighe,
Nice Shop Mike!
wall_o_planes.jpg (251533 bytes)
Here's my "Wall o Planes" which  is going to require expanding if I don't stop buying.
mctighes_hideout.jpg (127962 bytes)
This is an overview of my shop and yes that's a Ryobi BT3000SX saw in the foreground. I like it and the " real woodworkers" can just deal with it. =-) Almost out of the photo  on the left is my Jet 6" jointer. Left of it is my Grizzly 14" band saw and Rigid oscillating belt sander.
small_boxes.jpg (89463 bytes)
The photo of the boxes are a few I've made. One is a tissue dispenser with said tissue sticking out of it. That gives the scale of the others. The pattern painted on it by my lovely and talented wife is the same as a Tiffany lamp we have that came from my grandmother's house.
wall_o_saws.jpg (80278 bytes)
This is my "Wall o Saws"
I actually use most of them with my favorite being a Disston D-15 "Victory" cross cut model. I also have a nice little Lie-Nielsen Independence dovetail saw that's not in the photo. But The next photo shows it.
workbench_end_more_saws.jpg (91329 bytes)
I keep it and a couple of other small saws along with other hand tools that are frequently used on the end of my work bench.
wall_o_planes_april_26_2000.jpg (108142 bytes)
Here's a recent pic of my expanded Wall O Planes and yes, thank you forsaking, but that is a Yuppie Bastard Special (otherwise known as a Norris A5) on the center shelf. Now that I have one, I'm a little disappointed. It's a bit small for my hands and several of my old Stanley's work as well, or maybe a little better. I may end up selling it. But even if I don't, I think I'm going to need more shelves.
Here are some pictures from Brent Harral, He had a look at my shop and says he'll trade jobs any day, that is until he meets my Mother-In-Law-From-Hell (MILFH)!!
Thanks for the contribution Brent!
brent_harrals_shop.jpg (81972 bytes)
Thank God for mobile bases!
armoire.jpg (80032 bytes)
This is a maple armoire I made for a friend. My hand still hurts from the chip carvings hard maple is not the best wood to try this on. I was real hesitant on the color   selection but hey,  this is what they wanted
cradle_chest.jpg (101322 bytes)
The cradle I made for my new niece. My wife saw and liked a similar cabinet in a magazine - $1000.00. I asked her if I made it can I have the difference. I'm still waiting for a check. It all solid pine w/dovetailed drawers and finished with cut oil paint and varnish.
